Professor John Potter is a business psychologist who has made a special study of decision making and leadership. He is one of only a few people to hold a Ph.D in Leadership Studies. He has worked for private and public sector organisations and is a specialist in hostage and kidnap negotiation.
For the past 20 years he has worked with the military, emergency response and public and private organisations in the areas of crisis management, negotiation, leadership development and stress management.
He has been operationally involved in many challenging situations and has developed a number of ways to help people cope with decision making in difficult and ambiguous situations.
Academic activities
John Potter contributes to many university programmes in the topic areas of leadership and management.
He has contacts in the academic world at many UK business schools including Warwick Business School, Ashridge, The National School of Government and Plymouth. In addition, he has links which include Warren Bennis at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, Edgar Schein at MIT and John Kotter at the Harvard Business School. He is a visiting Professor at several HE institutions. Professor Potter is the author of several books on Leadership and Emotional Intelligence.
