Liverpool Roadshow - Semantic Technologies for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

A new swathe of web technologies offering enhanced access to resources, better search tools, visualisation of complex data, personalisation of content and even elements of artificial intelligence is currently emerging  These 'semantic technologies' allow data to be brought together from across the web, combined in new ways and presented using new interfaces.  The "Ensemble" project (full name - 'Semantic Technologies for the Enhancement of Case Based Learning) is a three year ESRC/EPSRC project led from Liverpool John Moores University.  It is exploring how these technologies can be used in areas where complexity, contestation or rapid change makes some kind of case-based or problem-based learning the pedagogy of choice.  The session will include a brief overview of the work of the project and demonstrations of some of these exciting new technological developments, as well as prototypes of the new web tools that the project team, working with teachers and students, have developed.
