Professor Sir David Melville

Professor Sir David Melville has made outstanding contributions to further and higher education. He was Vice Chancellor of the University of Kent from 2001 to 2007 and is the current Chair of LLUK (Lifelong Learning UK) Council and of the JISC-funded Committee of Inquiry into the Changing Learner Experience.

Sir David was educated at Sheffield and Columbia Universities. He began his career as a lecturer in physics at Southampton University and has since gone on to receive Honorary Degrees from Southampton, Derby, Middlesex and Sheffield Universities.

Sir David is a current board member for bodies including Edexcel, the Institute of Financial Services, the Learning from Experience Trust and is a member of the QCA Qualifications and Skills Advisory Group and the Advisory Board of the Black Leadership Initiative.

He was awarded a CBE in 2001 and a KBE in 2007 for services to further and higher education.
