ALT-C 2008: Rethinking the digital divide

The Association for Learning Technology (ALT) is a UK-based professional and scholarly association which seeks to bring together all those with an interest in the use of learning technology. ALT-C is the UK's main conference for practitioners, researchers and policy-makers in the learning technology domain.

JISC are pleased to be sponsoring the ALT-C 2008 conference and will also be exhibiting so please come along and see us on the JISC stand in the main exhibition area. We will be exhibiting along with 3 of our Services: Intute, JISC infoNet and JISC TechDis located on stands 1-4.

JISC provides world-class leadership in the innovative use of ICT to support education and research. Receiving funding from all the UK Further and Higher Education Councils, JISC manages research and innovation programmes in the use of ICT in teaching, learning and research to build knowledge, develop services, infrastructure and applications. JISC Services offer expertise, independent advice, guidance and resources to the UK FE and HE education sectors to promote the effective and innovative use of ICT.

Intute is a free online service created by university subject specialists, offering over 120,000 links to academic content on the web and free Internet training. You can use Intute to guide your students to the best of the web in their subject area; use MyIntute to create online reading lists, or the Virtual Training Suite to help students develop Internet research skills for their university work. This year Intute has also launched a new Intute repository search that lets you search across academic eprint repositories from universities around the UK. Give your students a step up.

JISC infoNet aims to be the UK's leading advisory service for managers in the post-compulsory education sector promoting the effective strategic planning, implementation and management of information and learning technology. Our latest resources include an e-Portfolios infoKit which complements a new JISC Effective Practice guide. In conjunction with ALT and the Academy Subject Centres, JISC infoNet has also produced a briefing paper, publication and online case studies on the Tangible Benefits of e-Learning, celebrating the diversity of current e-learning practice across the HE sector and providing evidence that technology-enhanced learning is delivering tangible benefits for learners, teachers and institutions alike.

JISC TechDis aims to be the leading educational advisory service, working across the UK, in the fields of accessibility and inclusion.
