JISC and the Office for Public Sector Information (OPSI) are seeking input from the UK learning, teaching and research communities to help steer the development of a new and innovative UK government website in response to recommendation eight of The Power of Information Review published in June 2007 – one of fifteen recommendations made to and accepted by the UK government.

The Power of Information review and unlocking UK Government Information - A Consultative Forum

The forum is limited to 30 delegates on a first come first serve basis. It is anticipated that librarians; lecturers/teachers; and researchers would benefit most from the event.

The new OPSI website is due for release in July 2008. It will showcase previously inaccessible UK government information and enable learners, teachers and researchers to comment on which UK government information they would like to see available online. OPSI has some funding to retro-convert information for delivery online. The information obtained from the website will help inform additional development.

Aims and Objectives

The forum aims to elicit the following information form the learning, teaching and research communities:

  • A greater understanding of the communities' requirements for the website
  • An opportunity to share information and gain an improved understanding of the communities knowledge and experiences of accessing and using UK government information within an educational and research context
  • An opportunity to hear first hand the UK government’s response to The Power of Information Review and it’s impact on policy across UK government
