Objectives of the session
JISC was asked by HEFCE in 2005 to investigate the extent to which it could
support the Funding Council's Third Stream Mission, encouraging
universities to pursue an active role in their local, regional or national
communities. Following a user-needs study and a think tank of experts
active in the field, JISC has begun a series of initial activities,
primarily to increase JISC understanding of the Third Stream's issues
and promote awareness of the potential of JISC outputs in this new
community.
The session will enable delegates to understand the current and planned
activities to support the Third Stream, to comment on these, and to discuss
with the JISC Executive and Committee members other suggestions for
suitable activities to support knowledge exchange and community engagement.
