e-Journal Archiving and Preservation workshop

Providing an overview of e-journal archiving requirements and solutions

Audience Library and information service managers; librarians; publishers; service providers

JISC, the British Library and the Digital Preservation Coalition are holding a joint workshop on e-journal archiving and preservation. The workshop will feature a number of current leading e-journal archiving initiatives, focusing on licensing terms and business models. Speakers representing the academic libraries and publishers will also be present at the workshop and articulate their requirements for e-journal archiving services. The keynote will be delivered by Ms Anne R. Kenney from the Cornell University Library, presenting the major findings of the Surveying the e-Journal Preservation Landscape report, which was commissioned by the US Council on Library and Information Services (CLIR) in 2006 to review major e-journal archiving programmes against concerns expressed by directors of academic libraries in North America.

The workshop has two goals:

  • present an overview of the e-journal archiving solutions relevant to the UK
  • identify aspects of e-journal archiving services that need more attention based on the requirements of both the library and publisher communities.

The workshop programme includes a panel discussion on high level principles for e-journal archiving and preservation services, given by representatives of publishers, academic libraries and third party services providers.
