Role

As a programme manager I am responsible for projects funded under the JISC's Research programme. This work deals with the development of, and the support for, information and computing technologies to facilitate all phases of research processes. The outputs from this programme will assist researchers with collaborating, exploiting e-infrastructure and helping to build communities within and across domains. The role of programme manager entails a good few responsibilities, but mainly involves overseeing the direction of JISC programmes as a whole, assisting and advising projects during their lifetime, ensuring that the projects are completed on time and within cost, managing partner relations and community engagement as well as providing input into the JISC Innovation strategy.

Before the start of the Research programme I was responsible for the Research Infrastructure programme and I am still working with projects and activities that originated from this programme. This includes previously funded projects like NaCTeM (National Centre for Text Mining) and the joint EPSRC/JISC Cloud computing in research pilot projects, but also ongoing initiatives such as NGS (the National Grid Service). I am also overseeing two larger e-infrastructure projects, the National e-Infrastructure for Social Simulation and NeuroHub, and am jointly managing Usability related activties. Text Mining, Data Analytics and Analysis of Social Media are also important areas in my current portfolio, and I continue to be involved in activties relating to Virtual Research Environments.

Having been active in the areas of digital history and humanities before joining JISC I am also participating in the advisory group of the AHRC's Digital Transformations programme.
