Role
Alastair looks after JISC’s e-content programme which deals with the creation and delivery of digital resources, such as the British Library's Archival Sound Recordings or the East London Theatre Archive for use in research, teaching and learning.
The role of programme manager entails a good few responsibilities, but mainly involves overseeing the direction of JISC programmes as a whole, assisting and advising projects during their lifetime, ensuring that the projects are completed on time and within cost, and managing the overall budget for the programme. More broadly, Alastair’s role also involves providing strategic direction to the JISC's strategy for digital content in higher education.
The particular programmes he manages include phase 2 of the digitisation programme (16 digitisation projects running from 2007 to 2009), the e-content programme for 2009-11 (11 projects looking at developing digitisation infrastructure) and the JISC/NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) transatlantic grants, a series of nine projects which bring together skills and systems from the US and the UK. He is also responsible for the JISC projects funded as part of HEFCE's work in the field of Islamic Studies and regularly writes for his blog
