Tim is responsible to the Chairman and the Board of Management for the operation and development of JANET, the UK’s research, education and learning network. This world class infrastructure serves the UK’s research and education community and is increasingly shared with a wider customer base throughout the public sector. Tim leads the senior management team who collectively manage the divisional structure of the company, ensuring first class customer focused service and value for money to stakeholders. After holding senior management positions in the BBC, Tim became a Senior Vice President at the Walt Disney Company and Managing Director at Buena Vista Productions International, where he was responsible for the growth and regional operations of a worldwide high brand value TV production business. In 2000 Tim joined new start-up Wide Learning as Chief Operating Officer being responsible for business change, development and operations in the highly customer focused and constantly changing e-learning content and platform environment. He joined JANET(UK), then UKERNA, in 2005. Tim’s specialist interest is developing best practice in the publicly funded operations, particularly excellent customer service and effective development processes which efficiently deliver new products and services. He has recently been developing a paradigm for effective business operations in challenging times which has become known as Marshall’s Factor Five – 5 basic principles focusing on mission, finance, integrity, team performance and forecasting the future. Tim’s other activities include in 2004 and 2008 being seconded to the Athens and Beijing Olympics broadcasting organisations being responsible for the quality of international TV coverage. His charitable work includes producing the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall each year. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Member of the British Computer Society and Royal Television Society and a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Constructors.
