JISC Strategy Review 2010-2012
The JISC Strategy is currently being reviewed to inform the period 2010-2012.
JISC's draft strategy 2010-2012 builds on the JISC Strategy 2007-2009 and can be seen as a natural progression of this earlier vision. This draft sets out our broad vision for ICT in education and research, as well as the activities JISC will deliver in partnership in order to help meet that vision.
The strategy has been updated partly due to changes in the external environment within which JISC operates and also to more fully articulate emerging areas of work, such as ‘green ICT’. Over the past nine months we have also been in conversation with the sector’s representative bodies and mission groups across the UK and commissioned essays from experts to help us understand the challenges facing universities and colleges. This information gathering exercise has informed how JISC might best provide a digital infrastructure which assists institutions in delivering their missions.
JISC is seeking responses to the consultation process from UK HE and FE institutions, membership bodies, mission groups, key partners and other relevant organisations. In light of the changing environment, we are keen to know if our planned future investment priorities are focused on the areas of greatest importance to those in education and research.
We would welcome responses using the consultation response form (Word) as soon as possible but the final deadline is Thursday 24 September 2009. All responses we receive will be analysed and help inform the final version of the strategy which we plan to publish in December 2009. Please send responses via email to strategy@jisc.ac.uk.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to the development of the future JISC Strategy.

Four essays on key issues facing the sector have already been commissioned to inform the strategy, all of which have recently reported:
- Sir David Watson: Organisational leadership, management and strategic planning;
- Professor Janet Beer (VC, Oxford Brookes): Staff quality, experience and skills;
- Sir Drummond Bone: Enabling student progress and the impact of the Bologna Process on UK HEIs;
- Professor Malcolm Gillies (VC, City University) Global competition, market position and student recruitment.
Five discussions with mission groups (Million+, 1994 Group, the Russell Group, the University Alliance and Guild HE) have also been held to date to discuss key issues facing institutions. A summary of the feedback from the discusssions has been produced. Further discussions are being planned with other groups of institutions.
