Progression and retention coordination group

The Progression and Retention Co-ordination Group (PRCG) is a group of post-16 education bodies that meet 3 times a year to consider UK-wide activities across further and higher education in support of learner progression and retention. These activities may include, for example, the Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR), Credit Frameworks, Information Advice & Guidance (IAG), employer engagement, quality assurance, overall system efficiencies and savings, the National Student Survey, the Bologna process, employability and others.

By aligning and co-ordinating activities, student retention and progression will be improved, members and other stakeholders will gain a more complete and informed picture of current activity and the strategies of each member can be aligned to reduce duplication of effect and achieve greater impact.

Members include representatives from:

  • JISC
  • Becta
  • The Higher Education Academy
  • The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA)
  • The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA)
  • UCAS

Study on the progression and retention activities of members of the Progression and Retention Co-ordination Group

In March 2010, JISC commissioned a small research study to identify higher education’s progression and retention activities, to show how they link together and to highlight any gaps or duplication of activity. The study provides a snapshot of over 300 activities (services, programmes, reports and technical systems) supported by the six member organisations of the PRCG, the four UK HE funding bodies and other stakeholder groups.
