Audit committee

The Audit Committee considers the adequacy of risk management, control and governance within JISC, and advises and reports on this to the JISC Board. The committee meets at least twice a year.

Terms of Reference 

  • in agreement with the JISC funding partners, to consider the adequacy of risk management, control and governance within JISC and to advise and report on this to the JISC Board
  • satisfy itself that acceptable arrangements are in place to promote economy, efficiency and effectiveness, and to recommend appropriate action where necessary
  • advise the JISC Board in relation to the appointment, re-appointment or change of the internal auditors
  • advise the JISC Board on the internal audit strategy and annual plan  
  • discuss with HEFCE’s external auditors any matters arising in relation to JISC
  • ensure that internal and external auditors have the full co-operation of JISC staff and members
  • review and assess the performance of the internal auditors, and the performance of the external auditors where this applies to JISC, and to advise the JISC Board
  • in relation to JISC’s development programmes, consider the evaluation framework, and performance against this, and to advise the JISC Board and its committees on this where appropriate
  • receive any relevant reports from the NAO, BIS, the funding partners and other organisations
  • receive the JISC funding recommendations annually and the JISC minutes and finance paper to note at each of its meetings and provide advice as necessary
  • in the event of any significant losses or fraud and irregularity, ensure appropriate actions are taken, and to advise the JISC Board
  • consider any other matters where requested to do so by the JISC Board or its funding partners
  • provide advice to the JISC Executive as required
  • provide a written annual report to the JISC Board, summarising the committee’s activities and giving the committee’s opinion on risk management, control and governance within JISC, and the arrangements to secure value for money
