JISC sub-committees

JISC’s sub-committee structure and governance ran from February 1993 to July 2011 when they were stepped down following HEFCE’s Review of JISC in December 2010. The review recommended that the sub-committees be replaced with a different mechanism for gaining strategic advice from the sector.

The sub-committees reported to the JISC Board and were put in place to steer the different areas of JISC’s work programme and services. They covered the following main areas of work:

  • Network
  • Infrastructure
  • Research
  • Content
  • Organisational support
  • Learning and teaching

Membership of the sub-committees consisted of senior managers, academics and technology experts working in UK colleges and universities. Members were chosen based on their practical knowledge of how information technology was being used within UK colleges and universities, and their insight into how innovative technologies could be used in the future.

Smaller working groups were sometimes established to help take forward particular areas of work. The working groups consisted of committee members and external experts who provided advice and guidance on specific issues.
